Germany

In Germany a large group of organisations including unions, churches, Attac Germany, environment and international development groups plus the political parties, the Social Democrats, Left Party and Green Party, have all come together to support taxing the banks.

The campaign supports a financial transaction tax to raise money to help the poorest at home and abroad, and tackle climate change. It is pushing for a global FTT but also supports one at a European level.

The German campaign has already had a huge success. At an official hearing in parliament on a FTT, the Government committed to introducing a FTT in May 2010. Now the campaign needs to make sure the government keeps its word.
